Originally from Manila, Philippines, I studied communication design at Otis Parsons in Los Angeles and Parsons in Paris where I finished with a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration/Graphic Design in 1989. In 2017 I completed the Figurative course at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh where I currently live and work.
My current body of work consists of floral paintings in oil. Inspired by religious paintings from the Baroque period I aim to produce images that evoke a spiritual pathos that is simultaneously beautiful and tragic. Flowers are a perfect subject as they are in a constant process of decay from the moment they bloom and my paintings attempt to capture a glorious moment in that process.
I have exhibited in several group exhibitions in Edinburgh, in August 2022 I will have my first solo exhibition – Floramundi.
